Danfoss VLT FCD 300 overview

The FCD 300 is a complete frequency converter.  Beyond the quality manufacture you would always expect from Danfoss, the 300 is particularly designed for decentral mounting. This negates any need for central control panels so that you won’t need to build the cabinets that can often take up much needed space.  As well as that, you can also run the 300 with less reliance on long screened motor cables.

Instead, the FCD 300 can be mounted directly onto the motor, or else on a wall close to the motor.

Functionality

Installation is flexible, with the capability for internal power line looping. Inside for enclosure, terminals for 4 mm2 power cables enable connection of up to 10+ units.

The FCD 300 meets the requirements of the Food & Beverage industry, where equipment is often required to be washed down, in terms of hygiene.  The 300 is therefore fully protected within a small, strong, dirt-free enclosure.

Servicing is fantastically simple.  Simply plug in a further electronic part and servicing will happen swiftly and easily.  Equally simple is the plug-and-drive ‘twin-part’ design of the installation box and electronic part (inverter). The connections are made within the installation box, which features maintenance-free Cage Clamp connectors and looping facilities for power and fieldbus cables.

In terms of communication, in-built as standard is the RS485 communication port for PCModbus RTU.  But for extended functionality, there’s the 24V external back up of control and communication, supply of electromechanical brake and additional brake chopper and brake control

For power, the FCD 300 features a range from 0.37 – 3.3 kW, 380–480 V.  For the enclosure, the 300 comes with a IP66/Type 4X (indoor) as standard, alongside special painting treatment.  In compliance with IEC 61000-3-2 the harmonic filter has integrated coils in the DC link and further, whilst the RFI filter is in compliance with EN 55011 1A.  In a perfect match of drive and motor, the Automatic Motor Tuning measures the stator resistance (RS) without the motor shaft turning.

Accessories

For the Fieldbus, choose from PROFIBUS DP, DeviceNet, or AS-interface as built-in option.  The FCD 300 offers a extremely simple and useable remote I/O functionality, whereby inputs can be read via the fieldbus. M12 connectors operate for the sensor/actuator plugs, http://www.p-n-p.co.uk/wp-admin/post-new.phpwhilst on either the motor or mains side, local disconnect is enabled va the lockable service switch.

A HAN 10E connector is included for pluggable motor connection and the LCP2 Alphanumeric LCD display allows for set-up, controlling and diagnosis.

Conclusion

Once again, another fantastically versatile and durable piece of equipment, courtesy of Danfoss – especially perfect for those in the food and drink industry.
